How to Install Spray Foam Roofing
Before starting with the installation, the substrate or existing roof must be prepared. In our case, instead of stripping the existing roof, our contractors will most likely prepare the substrate by removing all dust, dirt, and other contaminants. We do this through sweeping, vacuuming, or air pressure.
Our contractors put down the polyurethane foam as the first layer. It is a foam produced by combining two liquids which are the isocyanate and polyol/resin, as it is sprayed onto the existing roof substrate.
As these liquids are spread onto the existing roof, they produce a foam that expands 20 times in size to create a seamless, solid surface of the foam. When the polyurethane foam has expanded, its layer usually is between 1 and 1.5 inches thick. This foam can be installed on any roof slope since it adheres to most common surfaces.
Once the first layer of SPF roofing is completed, our contractor coated it with a layer of acrylic coating or elastomeric silicone with embedded granules. This layer is usually between 20 and 30 mils in thickness. This coating shield the roof and SPF from the weather, UV light, normal wear and tear, and gives the required fire ratings.
That’s it! Once the installation is finalized, it will produce a durable, seamless, and moisture-resistant sustainable foam roof covering. Contact us today to talk to our specialists about your plan to have a Spray Polyurethane Foam roofing system and save yourself from the hassle.
